[2014] JMMISCOOL (Class of 2017): Irrigate the City-State

Irrigations Effects For a long time the Mesopotamia Star has been looking at irrigation, this is our last report on this subject and we want to look at all its effects. First, now we can grow crops from the river and from silt that precious soil. Also we can sail and trade across long distances. New boats have been created as well to help with sailing. Some other things are that people are able to settle down and a great book has been written The Epic of Gilgamesh. Not Everyone is Happy With all these advancements someones has to do the heavy lifting, and that job has fallen on the slaves. In the dry climate we are in we can't understate the importance of irrigation. We got an interview with a canal worker named Abu-Hitar just to show how hard things are. The interview is shown to the right. How Irrigation Works To "Irrigate the City-State" we need to use both the Tigris and Euphrates River. The irrigation system is complicated but here's a simple discription. Water is transported with canals so that it can get from one river to the other connecting them and bringing the city-states water. The reason it has to be complicated is because we don't know when the river will flood so we have to create mechanical system at both rivers to send water to canals.
