[2015] Madysson Ritter: Ionic Radii

Ionic Radii

.

Compared to the regular atom, cations are smaller and anions are bigger. The cations tend to lose their electrons to create an octet and anions add electrons. Because these electrons are negatively charged, it causes them to repel making the ion expand.

Compare a cation to a regular atom.an atom has a neutral charge and a cation has a positive charge because it loses valence electrons

Cations

.

Compare an anion to a regular atom.an atom has a neutral charge and an anion has a negative charge because it gains electrons

What is an ion?an atom or group of bonded atoms that has a postive orgative charge

Anions

Cation

.DDifference between a cation and an anion?cation has a positive charge and an anion has a negative charge
