Introduction Week 1

In my opinion assessments are teacher's tools to make effective lessons. As a teacher I need a pre-assessment to know how much background knowledge my students have and where to begin my lesson. I need formative assessments to be part of every day's instruction to tell me if my students are understanding my lesson. Finally I need summative assessments to get a full understanding of what each one of my students' nexts step should be. All students are different and need different kinds of help, so through assessments I get to differentiate my teaching.

IntroductionEDU 645 Learning & Assessment for the 21st Century

"Design a variety of evidence-based assessments used for ongoing evaluation of students progress, and to guide teacher and learner decision making"(Ashford, n.d.). This outcome intrigues me because I believe that without a good assessment to guide my teaching I would waste a lot of time. I have always wanted to be able to assess my students using more than a simple multiple-choice test. I want assessments that take my student's diversity and multiple intelligences in consideration. I believe that a Master will help me come up with more and better ideas on how to assess my students using pre-test, formative tests, and summative tests. Reference: Ashford University (n.d.) Master's Outcomes?

"Execute an action research study that draws on the research and methods of various disciplines to address local or global educational issues" (Ashford, n.d.) This outcome intrigues me because I have always wanted to be able to integrate different disciplines with my students in one lesson. I want to involve students in current local and global issues. I believe that getting our students involved in their community is a key component in preparing our students to graduate from high school being ready to work in today's global economy. I want to learn how to create lesson plans that engage my students with the community around us while covering the Common Core Standards.Reference: Ashford University (n.d.)
