International Literacy Association

ILA is a partner in sponsoring ReadWriteThink.org. This free site provides valuable tools for teaching reading and Language Arts in grades K-12. Membership in the ILA provides additional access to well-known publications like The Reading Teacher, Research Quarterly, and the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy. These respected resources provide teaching strategies, ground-breaking research, and evidence-based practices for fostering literacy. In addition, members have exclusive access to standards-based lesson plans created by teachers and researchers for use in your classroom. Finally, every year the ILA hosts a conference for educators to meet with other educators and researchers to become equipped with the latest in literacy research, strategies, and best-practices. In addition, attendees earn continuing education credits.

The aim of the International Literacy Association (ILA) is to address the illiteracy epidemic currently plaguing our global community. The ILA states that nearly 800 million people around the world, including 126 million children, are illiterate. Those who are illiterate are unable to read, write, or communicate in a way that allows them to connect with other people or thrive in society.

The ILA is supported by more 300,000 educators, researchers, and experts spanning 75 countries across the globe. The organization supports cutting-edge research, sets standards for literacy education, and works with policy makers to encourage funding for literacy programs around the world.
