In World War I the Indian Army fought against the German Empire in German East Africa and on the Western Front.

The Sepoy Mutiny was a violent and very bloody uprising against British rule in India in 1857.

India's Independence

India became officially a British colony as British crown took control of India from East India Company. The British crown put a Secretary of State for India in change of India. Indian Council who had only advisory powers aided him. India was divided into three administrative zones (Bengal, Madras and Bombay).

Muslim League, political organization of India and Pakistan, founded 1906 as the All-India Muslim League by Aga Khan III.

The Indian National Congress was the largest ndian public organization, and central and defining influence of the Indian Independence Movement.

The Homespun Movement was in India and was led by Mahtama Gandhi and it was made to tell his people to boycott British textiles and wear their own homespun clothes.

Mohandas Gandhi was the preeminent leader of Indian independence movement in British-ruled India. Employing nonviolent civil disobedience, Gandhi led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.

Salt March

Massacre of Amritsar, incident in which British troops fired on a crowd of unarmed Indian protesters, killing a large number.

The 1965 war between India and Pakistan was the second conflict between the two countries over the status of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Indian Independence Act was an act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom that partitioned British India.

The Partition of India was the proccess of dividing the subcontinent in 1947 as India gained their independence from British Raj.
