In 2013, about 289,000 women died from compilications during pregnancy or childbirth.Most of this deaths could have been avoided if this women had the necassary medicial care, the key obstacle in their pregnancy was the lack of access of quality care before,during and after pregnancy.This was made a goal by United Nations to improve the lack of care/ health before,during and after pregnancy by 75 per cent by 2015.

• The proportion of deliveries in developing regions attended by skilled health personal rose from 56 from 1990 to 68 percent 2012• The maternal mortality ratio in developing regions is till 14 times higher than in developed regions• Only half of women in developing regions receive the recommended amount health care you need• Fewer teens are having children in most developing regions, but process has slowed down

The maternal mortality rate is declining only slowly, even though the vast majority of deaths are avoidable

Maternal mortality has dropped from 45 per cent in 1990-2013 from 380-210deaths per year(per 100,000 live births) A woman dies every minute from birth complications– about 529,000 each year -- the vast majority of them in developing countries.


Globally, maternal deaths has dropped 45% between 1990 and 2013, substantial progress has been achieved in almost all regions, many countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, will fail to reach the Goal 5 target of reducing maternal mortality by 75% from 1990 to 2015. Maternal deaths have halved in the last 20 years,
