Importance of Brushing Teeth
Taking care of your teeth helps prevent plaque, which is a clear film of bacteria that sticks to your teeth.After you eat, bacteria go crazy over the sugar on your teeth, like ants at a picnic. The bacteria eat away tooth enamel, causing holes called cavities. Plaque also causes gingivitis.
What is Plaque?
Plaque is a soft, sticky film that builds up on your teeth and contains millions of bacteria. The bacteria in plaque cause tooth decay and gum disease if they are not removed regularly through brushing and flossing.
Gum disease is also known as periodontal disease. It is an inflammation of the tissues and bone that support the teeth, called Gums. Untreated gum disease can become very serious, causing teeth to become loose or fall out.Gum disease is usually caused by a buildup of plaque.
Cavity Prevention
1.Brush twice a day for at least 3 minutes each time.2.Always brush with a toothpaste that contains fluoride.3.Use a toothbrush with soft, polished bristles.4.Eat a healthy diet.5.Regular dental care is extremely important in helping to keep your mouth healthy.
