Impact of Declaration

The declaration of independence was written mainly by Thomas Jefferson. This declaration was accepted by all the members of the second Continental Congress on July 4th of the year 1776. This created the 'United States of America'. The Declaration of Independence declared the colonies' indepence from Britian. The document emphasises on the value of republicanism and having it be the foundation of the nation. The Declaration also inspired over 100 other nations to write their own similar declarations.

The reading of the Declaration of Independence to the public gave hope to many. When the American army was close to giving up, the reading of The Declaration reminded them what they are fighting for and gave them hope for a brighter future. This declared the tie between the colonies and Britian to end, and that they would no longer be controled by Britian and the unfair king.

Lasting Impact

Abraham Lincoln in 1863 wrote in the Gerryburgs Adress restated the line from the consititution that "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness". This was a major contributor to the end of slavery. The declaration was also translated into many different major languages all over the world. After just 50 years after the original drafiting, 20 different nations had constructed their own declarations inspired by the American declaration. After that, even more nations declared independence. Thanks to the declaration, our country can enjoy and freedom we have.
