The setting of the story If I Stay is in a small town in Oregon and in a hospital in Portland, Oregon. It also took place in the modern day.

Author: Gayle Forman

If I Stay

Name: Sydney St. Marie Date: 11-15-14

Theme: choice and love

Mood: sad and touching

The reason why i liked If I Stay was that I felt like i was in the book. I couldn't put the book down until I finished it. The part I remember most about the book is the car accident because that was the turning point in the story.

The protagonist in the story is Mia Hall. Mia is 17 years old, plays the cello, loves classical music, is close to her family, and plans on attending Julliard.

''Sometimes you make choices in life and sometimes choices make you''

Genre: Young-Adult Fiction

Mia Hall has everything she needs, an adoring boyfriend, a loving family, a terrific best friend, and an amazing music career ahead of her. It goes away in a blink of an eye. Mia and her family get into a horrible car accident and are rushed to a hospital. Mia is put into a coma. She gets flashbacks of her life before with her boyfriend, family, audition at Juliard, etc. Mia is stuck between life and death. Will she stay or will she leave everything behind?

The conflict in the story is Mia's choice to stay(live) or leave(die) after she got in a bad car accident with her brother and family.

Gayle Forman began her career writing for Seventeen Magazine. She published her first young adult novel Sisters in Sanity which she based on an article she wrote for Seventeen. In 2009 she realeased If I Stay.

"Beautifully written."-Entertainment weekly

The antagonist in the book is no specific person. It is death and how Mia struggled with it after the car accident she was involved in. She couldn't decide to stay or leave with the rest of her family.

I would recommend the book If I Stay to anyone who likes love/romantic stories and is in for a little sadness. This book is very sad but has a lot of happy parts in it. This book is also a love story at the same time because she has a strong relationship with Adam her boyfriend.

"warning: This book will make you cry"

"Intensely moving"-Publishers weekly
