Book Summary

Katniss Everdeen, who is 16 years old, volunteers herself as a tribute in the 74th Hunger Games in place of her sister, Primrose. Prim was unfortunatley chosen, but Katniss wouldnt let her takeon the Games. Katniss then went to the event with the other chosen tribute, Peeta Mellark. The two are forced to fight to the death with the other 24 people from the Districts around them.

Katniss Everdeen: Katniss is 16 years old, strong willed, and she hunts to provide for her family. After her dad dies in a coal mining accident, she has lived with her sister and her mother.Peeta Mellark: Peeta is loyal to everyone and is very sympathetic towards those who are less fortunate. He is in love with Katniss and will do anything to keep her alive and protect her. They both refuse to hurt eachother in any way.

Connections to the LotteryThey both have a lot of control and the citizens are forced to do things against their will. Mostly everyone lives in fear from the government and what they do if something is done wrong.They are sheilded from the real world around them.
