Summary

The Hunger Games

Katniss Everdeen is the protagonist because she saves her sister from being killed in the Hunger Games. Prim doesn't know how to hunt. Meanwhile, Katniss knows how to hunt with her bow and arrow. The antagonist is President Snow.He is the one who came up with the Hunger Games and kills in the arena. Katniss has to stay alive in the arena and survive the things that the gamemakers do such as like fireballs, tiger mutations, poison berries, and the forcefield. Katniss is brave and loving. “Do this!” I command myself. Clenching my jaw, I dig my hands under Glimmers body, get a hold of what seems to be her rib cage. I get the bow and run! (Page 193) With one sweep I push her behind me I volunteer, I volunteer as tribute(page 22)

Setting & Symbol

The setting is in District 12 and the arena of the 74th Hunger Games. Poor is a symbol that represents Hunger Games because you fight for having money and food to survive your life so you have to win the hunger games to be rich and be wealthy

Katniss, Prim, and her mom live in District 12. When it is time for them to pick two names as tribute for the Hunger Games. The tributes go into an arena and fight to the death. Prim was picked for the female tribute, but Katniss volunteers in her place. Cinna, Katniss’s designer, puts Katniss in the tube that sends her up into the arena. Katniss runs for the bow and arrow but doesn’t get it in time, so she runs to the woods. At the end, Katniss and Peeta are the last tributes. They threaten the Capitol, saying that they would eat the wild berries, which means there would be no victor. For this reason, The Capitol declares that Katniss and Peeta Mellark are the victors of the 74th Hunger Games

“The frantic voice of Claudius Templesmith shouts above them ‘Stop! Stop! Ladies and Gentleman, I am pleased to pronounce the victors of the 74th Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. I give you the victors of District 12.’” It is showing how Katniss and Peeta tricked the Capitol by using poison berries. (page 346)

The theme is “to live is the rarest thing, most people just exist.” The story makes you see the troubles or scary things that happen in life.

The Hunger Games is told in first person. Katniss Everdeen volunteers as tribute for her sister. She has to survive the 74th Hunger Games. Katniss Everdeen found sponsors so she received food and medicine, which let her stay alive. She was the victor of the 74th Hunger Games.
