Hunger and Allergies in School

Limiting these foods would enable more students to be less hungry during the day

Limiting cross-contamination of foods and limiting use of common food allergens in school would help food insecure students who also have allergies to get more meals. Doing this would also allow for more students to buy school lunch so we are able to improve upon it's quality. It's important we insure all students get fed.

Food insecure students with allergies need more food

To make the lunches better, everyone who is able to buy lunch should do so in order to raise more money

Even when there's food, not everyone can eat it

Lunches can be healthier for everybody if we work together

Adding more healthy alternatives will help

Facts- 1 in 13 people under 18 have food allergies- The amount of food allergies among kids has risen by 50% between 1997 and 2011- More than half of the students at Deering are food insecure, and some of these students also have allergies putting them at higher risk for hunger

Teens talk about food allergies in the real world

Food allergies have always been a problem. Sometime in the 1200's A.D. Sir Thomas More made an account of King III getting hives after eating strawberries. The Roman philosopher Lucretius noted "what is food for some may be fierce poisons for others". The modern era of allergies began in the 19th century after hay Fever was first being described, this is when the increase in food allergies began.
