Humans and Abiotic Factors: Nitrogen and Phosphorus

Humans & Abiotic factors N & P

When humans inhabit an area, they, like all living things, are part of the ecosystem. Certain human activities can result in imbalances.*habitat destruction*phosphorus & nitrogen pollution*toxic chemical dumps*destruction of wetlands*production of greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide and methane*production of air pollutants that result in acid rain*disrupting water flow resulting in flooding or drought

Phosphorus is found naturallly in rock as phosphates. It is weathered and erodes, dissolving into water where it is taken up by plants.PLANTS USE PHOSPHORUS TO MAKE NUCLEOTIDES FOR THEIR DNA & RNAThe phosphorus is transferred through food webs through feeding, then DECOMPOSERS BREAKDOWN WASTE DNA MOLECULES, RETURNING PHOSPHATE TO THE SOIL

Phosphorus Cycle

What is eutrophication?

phosphate and nitrate are in fertilizer

phophorus is part of phosphate

Nitrogen Fixing Bacteria Live in Legume Roots
