The Human Body

The Circulatory System

The main job of the Circulatory System is to bring food and oxygen to all the parts of the body. The chief organ is the heart. The left side of the heart pumps blood with oxygen in it to the body. The right side pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs to pick up more oxygen. The 3 kinds of tubes blood travels through are the arteries, veins, and capillaries. The arteries grind blood to all the body parts. Veins take blood away from the body parts and back to the heart. Capillaries connect arteries and veins. The capillaries are 50 times thinner than one strand of hair.

The Digestive System

The main job of the Digestive System is to break down food into usable parts so your body can use it for energy and to make your body grow. The chief organ is the stomach. The stomach churns and squeezes the food by contracting and relaxing. It also mixes the food with digestive juices to become a creamy paste called chyme. The liver changes fats, proteins, carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins into different forms to be acceptable for the body to use. Then the small intestine sends some of the food to the large intestine to be digested.
