Hoping and Believing

Lauryn Ferreras

I was born on the 27th of July in the year 2000. My mother was born in Australia with Sri Lankan heritage. My father was born in the Philippines. A year and a half later, my brother, Sean, was born. As a kid, I loved to dream and treasured my vivid imagination. I attended St. Michael's Primary School where I met some of the best people: Janelle Del Vecchio for starters, who's stuck with me ever since. At some point, my parents separated which was very tough (for obvious reasons). I graduated from primary school and went on to Saint Francis Xavier College where I am presently. Here I've met amazing people and continue to work hard every day of my life to achieve something only a younger me could have dreamt of.

My real-life idols include my tita Leonora, my lola my dad and my best friend Janelle. All of these people manifest the most honourable qualities. My other idols are fictional characters, some of which are Katniss Everdeen, Rose Hathaway, Will Herondale, Jem Carstairs. Again, these youngsters demonstrate enormous courage, immaculate moral compasses and wisdom surpassing their age. Building on that, I would follow Jesus, Tori Kelly and Cassandra Clare anywhere. ;)

Ever since I was young, I've loved to dream. I lost myself in other worlds found only in books and later wrote my own. Reading and writing were and still are incredibly important to me. I also love to spend time with my friends and family who never fail to make me smile. Another of my favourite pasttimes is listening to music, especially acoustic or pop sound. My favourites include Adele, Ed Sheeran and Tori Kelly. I also like to watch tv shows, especially episodes of Gossip Girl and The 100.

Hoping & Believing

My mum's name is Sharmaine and my dad's is Leo. My parents are separated now and each have partners (Warren, Lisa). I have a brother, Sean, who is a year and a half my junior. All four of my grandparents are still around today. I also have nine younger cousins I adore with all my heart.

As an idealist, my goals are pretty high and virtuous. If I were to tell specific goals I had, they'd be to excel in the things I do, to help others in a significant way and to become a person and Christian worthy of being remembered. If that's too much to ask, I dream for the happiness of all. That each person can find peace within themselves and contentment in their lives. That we find a way to overcome fear and oppression. That we learn to share and empathise instead of condemning others. All that jazz. (I guess that's still to much to ask, oh well).I'm not sure what I'm going to do with my life. But I hope I make it count. I hope we all do.

Paper Hearts by Tori Kelly

I have a deep passion for love and life. I love the serenity of nature, the promise of children and the everlasting mercy of God. I believe and I have hope.
