A baby boomer is a person who was born during the demographic post-World War II baby boom between the years 1946 and 1964, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Pad --- House, home, apartment or bed.Hey, Lester, c'mon up to my "pad" you look like you need to cool down.

Dad, Daddy-o --- A hipster's way of addressing another guy.Hey, "daddy-o", what's cookin'.

Gig --- A paying job.I'm playing a gig in the city tonight.

Can --- Jail "I heard Tony got thrown in the can last week"

Square --- A somewhat outmoded term meaning unknowing which can be a noun or a verb. That cat is a real "square"

Suburbs usually created the illusion of a perfect traditional family. They also became the new glamorous countryside. Over the next couple of years suburbs became very popular and helped the government to give GI bills to the veterans of World War II and the Korean War. They helped them with the mortgage and college.

Conformity is the need to avoid standing out from the crowd. Its manifestations in 1940s and 1950s culture included long rows of new, identical suburban houses; widely accepted standards of dress for men, women and children; the acceptance of a largely uniform set of home appliances and equipment, particularly on large-scale levels; and the widespread acceptance of what would seem to be controversial government activities like the Korean War, the denouncement and "rooting out" of Communism and the establishment of an atomic weapons program.

A fallout shelter is a civil defense measure intended to reduce casualties in a nuclear war. And its likely aftermath of radiation until radioactivity has dropped to a safer level.

Gender Roles-at this time, men and women had drastically differing responsibilities. The woman was expected to cook and clean whereas the man was supposed to be the breadwinner. Anything outside of these strict places was looked down upon for either gender.

Consumerism- After World war II, consumer spending no longer meant just satisfying an indulgent material desire. In fact, the American consumer was praised as a patriotic citizen in the 1950's, contributing to ultimate success of the American way of life.
