History of the Pencil

The first pencil was created in 1564. The pencil has changed in many ways from then till now in 2014.

In 1662, Germans created the first graphite sticks out of powderered graphite factories. Originally they were wrapped with string or wool.

Graphite was first used to line the mould of cannon balls. They started searching for more of it in England. Soon it becamen widely available in every european country.

1500

Frenchman Nicolas Conte had created an incarnation of the modern pencil. It was made by glueing two halves of a wooden holder around a graphite stick.

The French came up with the first mass prouced pencil and created the mechanic pencil as well.

They came up the modern mechanical pencil we use today.
