Hinduism

The most important symbols in Hinduism is “aum.” This is the main symbol of this religion. The symbol is called this because it is the sound heard from the deepest meditation and it is said that it is the name most suited for god. There are also other symbols in Hinduism like “ bindi”. A bindi is the “dot” worn on the forehead of a woman when she is married or if she will marry. Linga is the symbol of the god Shiva, who is also known as The Destroyer. A lotus flower represents the beauty in Hinduism.

In Hinduism, there is one soul/god that they believe in and that they worship. This god is called Brahman. The Hindus believe that Brahman takes many forms. In Hinduism, there are three main gods that Hindus worship, and they all represent different forms of Brahman. These gods include Brahma known as “The Creator,” Vishnu known as “The Preserver,” and Shiva known as “The Destroyer.” Hindus believe that there is a part of Brahman in everyone, and this is called Atman. They also believe that religion is more something that deals with practices over beliefs. That it depends more on what you will do in life, compared to what you believe or have faith in. Hindus also have three practices that they do. The first practice is Worship (Puja). This is where the Hindus make offerings to the gods or goddesses. The second practice is Cremation. Hindus are never buried, but are burned. The third practice is Complying With the Caste System. This caste system is divided up by jobs. However, no caste is higher or lower compared to another, they are all equal. So the third practice is that you have to comply to the caste system within Hinduism. This is so that everyone is equal, and no one is better or worse than another. In Hinduism, the Hindus do not believe in a specific afterlife, but they believe in reincarnation. They believe that the soul is eternal, and that the soul lives in different bodies, one after another. They believe that a soul can be in any body, such as a human, plant or animal. They also believe in Karma, and this relates to reincarnation. In Hinduism, they believe that if the soul in a specific body does good, and does pure acts, then that soul can reincarnate into a higher level after it’s body has died. And if a soul does bad things, then the soul will reincarnate into a lower level. This means that Hindus strive to live a better life than the one they lived before, so that they can reincarnate into a higher level, so they all try to live good lives.

Hinduism is considered as the oldest religion because it is based on Sanātana Dharma “Eternal Law” considered as the origins of human life. Traditions from Hinduism developed in 2000BCE in the Indus Valley. The cities in this valley started to develop traditions that faded in 1500BCE and it became Hinduism. In 500CE the majority of the Hindu sacred texts were written. In 1500 CE people started to devote themselves to the major deities (Vishnu, Shiva, Devi). Hinduism was mainly located in India but started to spread around South Asia. In 1800 the British Colonies arrived in Indian. Christian people preached to Indian, this means the Hindu population decreased. After the start of India’s independence other religions (Islam, Christianity) interfered with the Hindus witch caused violence.

Hinduism is the most dominant religion in Asia, especially India. More than 80% percent of India’s population is Hindu. There is in total around 1 billion Hindu people around the world. Hinduism is based on Brahmanism and on several Indian cultural traditions. The traditions in Hinduism are very ancient they go back several thousand years.
