"It’s about understanding! Understanding the world!" Peter Higgs 2007

In 2012, an experiment at CERN’s large hadron collider, they observed a new particle in the mass region around 126 GeV.The particle turned out to be comfermined as the Higgs Boson.

In the 1970’s scientists were close to understanding basic equations of the unified theory of fundamental particles in the universe. One problem, their theory predicted particles with no mass. Peter Higgs made a proposal that was to solve this problem. He introduced a Higgs Field that was a mechanism to the massless particles.

1. According to “The Hunt for the Higgs Boson. Science Scotland, issue no. 3 Writing to a colleague about his proposal for a particle at the origin of mass in 1964 , Peter Higgs wrote “ This summer I have discovered something totally useless.”2. In 1974,he became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.3. He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1983.4 . On October 8, 2013, the nobel prize in physics was awarded to Francois Englert and Peter Higgs “ for the theoretical discovery of a mechanism “.
