-A herniated disc is a condition in which the annulus fibrosus (outer portion) of the vertebral disc is torn, enabling the nucleus (inner portion) to herniate or extrude through the fibers.
-Most bulging discs are not symptomatic.-Pain and other symptoms from a herniated disc can usually be treated successfully with medication and nonsurgical options. - Such as physical therapy, chiropractic manipulation, and injections.
Herniation is thought to be the result of a defect in the anulus fibrosis, most likely the result of excessive stress applied to the disc.
To help prevent low back pain or a herniated disc:Stay at a healthy body weight.Exercise regularly.Quit smoking.Think about your posture.
Disk herniation is most often the result of a gradual, aging-related wear and tear called disk degeneration.
Depending on the severity of symptoms, treatments for a herniated disc include physical therapy, muscle-relaxant medications, pain medication, anti-inflammation medications, and surgical operations.
