Philanthropy: The Ford Foundation

After the success of the Quadricycle, Ford got funding from William H. Murphy to found the Detroit Automobile Company in 1899. This company was not successful and ultimately failed in 1901. This didn't stop Ford, he was determined to make a successful affordable car. With the help of C. Harold Wills he finally designed an excellent car. This motivated former stockholders in the Detroit Automobile Company to back Ford again and the Henry Ford Company was born in 1901. Ford left this company in 1902 and it was renamed the Cadillac Automobile Company. He then formed a partnership with Alexander Y. Malcomson to create "Ford & Malcomson, Ltd." Malcomson brought in more investors, including the Dodge Brothers, and Ford & Malcomson was reincorporated into the Ford Motor Company in 1903.
