Current Status of Research Scientists are working on a cure for humans with hemophilia. They have been researching gene therapy and believe that there is a possibility that it could cure hemophilia. Using gene therapy, some dogs and mice have been completely cured from their hemophilia.

names: Hemophilia A, factor 8 deficiency, classic hemophilia

Hemophilia is a genetic disorder carried on the X chromosome that can either spontaneously form, or be passed down by a mother or father that is a carrier of the gene. It is inherited with an X-linked recessive pattern. Unfortunately, there are no prenatal tests for this disorder. Thouh, the mother could go and get tested to see if she is by chance a carrier of the gene.

Hemophilia A is a rare inherited bleeding disorder in which the blood cannot clot normally at the site of a wound or injury, that is caused by a mutation in the factor 8. The medicine that you take for it is simply the replacement of the factor that your body is missing. You have to take the medicine for the rest of your life though. The amount that you have to take depends on your weight and/or if you experience inhibiters, which is when your medicine stops working and you have to take more then usual.
