Helium(He)

It is estimated that the Earth's helium supply will run out by 2030 and party balloons will cost $90.The Goodyear blimp is filled with helium.Helium and hydrogen are the only elements not created in stars. The inner core of earth has a high concentration of helium which allows the Earth to stay suspended in space. When a human inhales helium, their voices changes to a higher frequency. The word helium comes from the Greek word for sun, Helios.

Atomic Mass: 4Atomic Number: 2There are 2 protons, 2 neutrons, and 2 electrons. Helium is a noble gas. It is in group 18 and period 1 in the periodic table. Its boiling point is -452.1°F (-268.9°C) and its -458°F (-272.2°C).

Chemical: Non-flammable and non toxic .Physical: Gas, Colorless, Odorless, Tasteless, and the lowest density of any gas except for Hydrogen. Its many uses include air for party balloons, MRI machines, heat transfer, welding, leak detection, and pressurization and purging.

Helium was first descovered on the sun.Pierre-Jules-César Janssen was the French astronomer who descovered helium. During a solar eclipse he was studying the sun and found that one of its many phenominons was caused by helium. It was discovered in the year 1868. It was later named by English astronomer, Sir Norman Lockyer. Helium is an inert gas that is not able to combine with other elements.
