Hedgehog

Hedgehogs live in a variety of climates and terrains across East Africa. They must have a dry shelter with an abundant amount of ground-dwelling insects around them.

Hedgehog

The scientific name is Atelerix Albiventris.

The size of a hedgehog is 7-9 inches long and 1-2 pounds.

Hedgehogs favorite food include insects, earthworms, snails, and slugs. They also eat eggs, small mammals, birds, reptiles, fruit, fungi, and roots.

The most obvious characteristic of a hedgehog is their quills. They have about 6000 quills and are used to defend off predators. The quills are harder and sharper than porcupines. When the hedgehogs are frightened they curl into a ball.

The conservation status of the hedgehog is least threatened.

The hedgehog gestation period is between 35 and 58 days depending on the species.
