Heath Ledger

Heath Ledger was an Australian actor (born on April 4, 1979) who moved to the United States in 1998 to advance his film career. He is best known for his roles in Brokeback Mountain, A Knight's Tale, and The Dark Knight. He died on January 22, 2008 due to an accidental overdose on the combination of several prescription drugs including oxycodone and benzodiazepines.

Heath Ledger was addicted to numerous prescription drugs, but his main addictions were with OxyContin and Vicodin. These are both opiads, making them depressants. If these drugs are taken orally, they are effective pain relievers. If they are crushed and snorted or injected, they result in a high similar to the effects of heroin.

Ledger's death was a shock to all of his friends and coworkers. He had just finished filming his impressive role as the Joker in the Batman movie, The Dark Knight. Many believe that the role took a major toll on Ledger and ultimately led to his abuse of prescription drugs. His autopsy revealed the combination of over 10 different prescription drugs.
