BenefitsThe healthy, physically active student is more likely to be academically motivated, alert, and successful……*The physical aspects of health and wellness help to improve cardiorespiratory capacity, muscular capability, flexibility and body composition as well as help to reduce a number of risk factors and diseases. *Health and wellness also helps to improve: balance, coordination, agility and mental capabilities.

Health education is an invaluable part of education that helps students build knowledge and skills to attain a positive attitudes about health. Health education covers a wide range of topics such as: physical health, mental health, emotional and social health. Students who are adequately educated in health and wellness are more likely to make better decision about their physical health, prevent disease, and reduce risky behaviors.

Living a positive, healthy life-style....

Physical: Developcardiovascular and muscular fitness, maintain adequatenutrition and proper weight, avoide abusive habits.

Social: Ability to interact successfully with others. Maintain intimacy with others and to have respect and tolerance for others.

Emotional: Ability to control stress and to express emotions appropriately.

Environmental: Maintaining a safe enviorment, such as: clean air, water, food supply.

Intellectual: Ability to learn and use informationeffectively; continued growth and development.

Local ServicesCoaches Challenge: Sponsored by UNLV athletics and the Southern Nevada Health District. Students in grades 2-5 track healthy eating and physical activity, tracking points. Classes with the greatest number of points earn UNLV athletic tickets and visits from UNLV head coaches.University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Research Center & Demonstration Orchard: A 1-acre facility in North Las Vegas serves children and adults in educating students in gardening.
