Hawaii

Waikiki BeachI would like to go Waikiki Beach in Honolulu because I love to swim and I could learn how to surf there too. Waikiki Beach is a very popular surfing spot. It is one of the most famous beaches in the world. At Waikiki Beach, there are many recreational activities such as surfing, diving, swimming, riding boats, and even take a submarine tour to see the animals underneath the water. Some sea creatures that live at Waikiki Beach are sea turtles, dolphins, whales, and tropical fish. Waikiki Beach is one of the most recognized beaches in Oahu.

USS Arizona MemorialI would visit the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor on the island of Oahu because it would be interesting to see where the Japanese planes attacked in 1941. This is the only battle that took place in the United States. The bombs destroyed 21 naval vessels and about one-third of the US fleet. 2,390 US soldiers died and 64 Japanese are thought to have died. After the attack, the US entered into World War II. At the Memorial you can see where the Japanese attacked the US ships and it is built over the sunken battleship. The memorial consists of four rooms: the entry room, the assembly room, a central area designed for presentations, and the shrine room where the names of the soldiers that died in the attack are engraved on the marble wall.

Iolani PalaceI would like to visit the Iolani Palace in Honolulu where Queen Liliuokalani lived. She is famous for being the only queen of Hawaii. She ruled Hawaii from 1891-1893 and was the last memberof the royal family to rule Hawaii. Soon, Hawaii became a part of the US. Iolani Palace was once used as the capitol building in 1968. Iolani Palace is now a tourist attraction in Honolulu.

HonoluluI would want to go to the capital and largest city of Hawaii, Honolulu. Honolulu is a Hawaiian word that means sheltered bay. It is located on the island of Oahu and is home to 387,170 people. It measures 68.42 square miles. Honolulu is a port city with many hotels and stores. Iolani Palace is where the king and queen of Hawaii lived years ago. Also, you can find the Honolulu Museum of Art which is known for its collection of Asian art. Honolulu is a city with many places to visit.

FactsThere are eight main islands of Hawaii: Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molaki, Lanai, Kahoolawe, and The Big Island. Hawaii became a state on August 21, 1959. Mauna KeaA geographic landform I would want to visit is the Mauna Kea Volcano. On certain occasions, people can walk right up to the active lava flow, but on other occasions people must view from far away when the volcano erupts. Mauna Kea stands about 32,000 feet above the sea floor! Scientists think Mauna Kea has been erupting for more than 7 million years. The eruptions have added about 500 new acres of land to Hawaii. It would be very cool to see a volcano erupting!

Fun Facts1. Barack Obama was born in Hawaii! 2. A traditional Hawaiian appetizer is called a Pu Pu Platter!3. Hawaii is the only state once to be ruled by a king and queen!
