Harry S. Truman

LifeBorn in Lamar, Missouri. He graduated High School but never attended college because his parents could not afford to send him. He spent a short time at Kansas City Law School but never actually finished a college degree. He was the 33rd president of the United States after a short time as Vice President under Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was appointed President in 1945.

The Truman Doctrine worked to contain the spread of communism by supporting small governments. Truman felt that it was America's job to stop the spread of Communism. It was used mostly to aid Greece and Turkey.

LegacyPresident Truman set into place many policies such as The Truman Doctrine, Marshall Plan, and institutions such as United Nations in order to prevent another World War. Under his leadership, the country embraced its new status as a superpower.
