Harriet Tubman

When she was about 30 years old, she used the Underground Railroad and escaped to the North and found freedom. During the 1850s, she made the dangerous trip back to Maryland 19 times to lead more than 300 slaves to freedom using a system called the Underground Railroad.She became a famous conductor of the Underground Railroad.

Harriet Tubman was born a slave in Maryland around 1820. In 1844 she married a free slave named John Tubman. Harriet Tubman always dreamt of being free.
