Tubman was born a slave in Maryland and grew up in hard times, often beaten and abused by her owners. In one instance, she was severly injured and plauged by the results of that her entire life. She was the most important conductor of the underground railroad, and because of her bravery and valiance she was given the nickname "Moses." She escaped from slavery in 1849 and helped thousands to freedom. She was a civil war veteran and was a nurse, cook, and spy in that was. She gave her life to others and in her death bed others dedicated their lives to her.


The Underground Railroad Coalition of Delaware- their goal is to preserve and recognize lands used for the Underground Railroad and to also increase knowledge of the railroad by commemorations, education, documentation, and research.

Women’s Journey Conference- They support confidence and empowerment in women of all ages and reflect back to the women of the past to help illustrate examples of their strength, intelligence, and courage. One of those women includes Harriet Tubman.

Civil War Trust- Their goal is to educate all of our roots and the war that made all men, women, and children free. They also try and preserve important land from the civil war. Harriet Tubman was an important figure in the war and also was one of the first important women in the war.
