ChildhoodShe grew up as a tomboy in a small town. Harper Lee grew up during a time of prejudice and racism. Events like the Scotsboro trial took place when she was growing up, which had an impact on her life.

FamilyHarper Lee's father was Amasa Coleman Lee, he was a lawyer. It is said that her mother, Frances Cunningham (Finch) Lee had a type of mental illness and barely left the house. She has 2 sisters (Alice Lee, and Louise Lee) and a brother (Edwin Coleman Lee). All her family members are dead except for her and Louise Lee.Many of the characters in her book "To kill a Mockingbird" were based off people from her everyday life.

To kill a MockingbirdTo kill a Mockingbird was published in 1960. In 1961 the novel won the Pulitzer Prize. The movie To kill a Mockingbird was released December 25th, 1962. This past February, after To kill a Mockingbird was published, it was announced that Harper Lee will be publishing her secong novel, Go Set a Watchman. Go Set a Watchman is said to be featuring her unforgettable character Scout as an adult.

Basic Facts~Harper Lee officially started getting interested in literature in high school~ She went to the all-female Huntingdon College~She went to Oxford University and the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa.~Harper's father was a member pf the Alabama state legislature and also owned part of the local newspaper

BirthNelle Harper Lee was born in Monroeville, Alabama on April 28th, 1926. Which was also known as the roaring twenties.
