To Kill a Mockingbird
Harper Lee was born on April 28, 1926 in Monroeville, Alabama. She is best known for her Pulitzer Prize-winning book To Kill a Mockingbird. Lee developed an interest for English literature in high school. She attended the Huntingdon College in Montgomery. She then transferred to the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa where she contributed to the school's newspaper and magazine by writing for them. After going to law school and later dropping out, she decided to go to NY to pursue her dreams of becoming a writer. After working with an editor, she was able to write her first book, To Kill a Mockingbird.

In July 1960, Harper Lee had published To Kill a Mockingbird. The book won the Pulitzer prize as well as many other awards the following year. In 1962, a film was made on the book that earned 8 Academy Award nominations. The movie won 4 awards. Atticus Finch, the dad, was supposedly based on Harper Lee's father.
