In 1926 an all African American Basketball team know as the Savory Big Five was founded in Chicago, Illinois. This team was known for its different style of play, unlike traditional teams the Savory Big Five game was based more on a circus like style of play which bought a new level of entertainment to the sport.

Throughout the years the Harlem Globetrotters traveled the world playing every team imaginable (both black and white), and only suffered one lost to the NYC Rens in 1939.Even with the lost of their beloved Meadowlark the Harlem Globetrotters plan to carry on the tradition of entertaining with the showmanship that will be sure to keep smiles on all of their fans faces'.

HISTORY

Abe Saperstein a well known coach, promoter and agent in the Chicago area was so fascinated with the Savory Big Five decided to purchase the team and would remain their owner until he died in 1966. Shortly after Abe acqired the team the Savory Big five would make their debute in NYC. In 1930, Abe Saperstein seen the potential the NYC market had for the Savory Big Five he decided to keep the team in NYC for good and that is when they decided to changed their name to the Harlem Globetrotters.

In the late 1950's some of the Globetrotters emerged with star performers from various lines of entertainment such as; Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain (NBA Superstar), Lynette Woodard (the first woman to play professional basketball), Bill Cosby (Actor), Ervin "Magic" Johnson (Basketball Hall of Famer) as well as Meadowlark Lemon who to this date is probably the most recognized Globetrotter. Unfortunately on December 27, 2015 Medowlark at the age of 83.
