In the new society of Gilead, humanity has no privacy and no freedom. They are constantly watched. Women, especially have been deprived of their rights. After a while, the people of Gilead grow used to such oppression and think it is normal and that their way of using torture and tyranny is right because this is what they are used to. The society has dehumianized its entire population by making them believe that this is the way it should be."Ordinary ... is what you are used to. This may not seem ordinary to you now, but after a time it will. It will become ordinary." (33)
