FACTSHalogens are...-Either Flourine, Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine, or Astatine -Poisonous-Always having a high electronegativity

-Starting with Flourine and going down, the atomic mass of each element goes down.-Only group to consist of all states of matter at room temp. (NOT counting plasma)

-Bromine is the only halogen that is a liquid at room temperature-If you start with Flourine and go down, the elements' melting/boiling points go up-Starting with Flourine, going down the group will also decrease reactivity slightly

Fun Facts

Properties

-Very Reactive- Consisted of 7 Valence Electrons-Toxic-Bad conductors-Non-metals-Most likely to bond with an Alkali Metal

-Bromine has a strong odor. It is likely it was named after the Greek word "bromos"which means "stench"-Chlorine was the first halogen discovered-Even though Chlorine and Flourine are poisonous, they are essential for life but only in small amounts-Fluorine is considered one of the most reactive elements-Astatine decays quickly

The halogens are located between the Noble Gasses and the final family of the Transition Metals. They are in group 17.
