Full name- Guion Stewart Bluford Jr.Born on November 22, 1942 (age 73)Born in Philadelipa, PennsylvaniaAfrican American

Education and degrees- graduated from the Pennsylvania State University as a member of the U.S. Air Force ROTC program in 1964. Then he enrolled at the Air Force Institute of Technology, where he received both a master's degree and a PhD in aerospace engineering. He also recieved a masters in business administration from the University of Houston, Clear Lake, in 1987.

Occupation- aeronautics engineer, astronaut, scientist, fighter pilot

He was one child of three, and their parents enforced having very high goals. Guy married to Linda Tull, and now has two kids, Guion Bluford 111, and James Bluford.

Biography

Life Obstacle

- his father was a mechanical engineer until epilepsy forced him to retire- his mother was a special education teacher-his high school guidance couselor suggested he was not college material

Scientific Contribution

On August 30th, 1983, he bacame the first African American to travel into space.Bluford and his space shuttle crew operated a Canadian-built robot arm and conducted several biophysiological experiments.He flew 144 combat missions.He went into space four times with NASA, with a total of 28 days, 16 hours, and 33 minutes in space.He has been given many awards due to his accomplishments, including the International Space Hall of Fame in 1997.

Summary

The global effect this person had on our world is being the first african american to go into space, showing anyone can achieve what they work for, no matter what color or race they are. He had always wanted to succeed and his dream was to beome an aeronautics engineer, yet never expected to achieve what he has. Bluford won many awards and is now famous because of his achievements.
