Wright Brother Plane: The Wright Brothers flew the first plane on December 17th, 1903. Now planes are much bigger and faster.Advantages: It was faster than a stage coach. Hot Air Balloons:They were made in France in the late 1700's. A rooster, a duck, and a sheep were the first riders. They fly people places by a fire that fills the balloon with hot air. Advantages:They are fun and they take you places. You can have a glass bottom hot air balloon and look down at stuff below you.Disadvantages:They can pop and they are hard to steer. Trains: Thomas Newcomen built the first steam engine. It was big and bulky but now they can reach up 186 mph. High speed trains came from Japan. Coal trains deliver coal to the energy plants. Steam Boats:Jonathon Hull made a steam boat in 1737. They are mostly used for fishing and to transport people and goods.Advantages:It has a motor to help people go up rivers faster.Disadvantages:They would have to cut down trees to make the fuel. Speed Boats:Advantages: One advantage of speed boat travel is speed!! They go really fast traveling at speeds up to 100 mph. It is a way to move small groups around on their own schedule.Disadvantages:The disadvantage to speed boat travel is that you can't fit many people in one. Usually no more than six to eight people. Covered Wagon: Mennonite German Settlers made them in the 18th century. They used horses to move the wagons. They helped people move far when they didn't have cars.Advantages: You can take your stuff with you and it won't get wet when it rains. The cover protects your stuff. It is faster than walking.
