The Parthenon on the Acropolis of Athens is one of the best-known symbols of Greece. It was a temple to the city's patron, the ancient goddess Athena.

Fast Facts - Greece is in the South of Europe - The Greek population is 11 million. - The capital city is Athens. - The Greek alphabet has 24 letters. - Its flag is blue and white. - There are 6000 islands. 227 are inhabited.

Greek islands attract many tourists every summer. They enjoy the beautiful beaches and the sunny weather.

The Greek fast food: Pita GyrosPieces of pork meat with French fries, tomato, onions and tzatziki sauce (Greek yoghurt with garlic and cucumber) rolled in pita bread.

Meteora (Unesco World Heritage) is huge rocks in the plain of Thessaly. A complex of Orthodox monasteries is on these rocks.

The Greek salad: tomato, cucamber, olives, onions, green peppers, olive oil and feta cheese, the well-known Greek cheese.

The Greek cuisine is healthy and low fat. It has a lot of vegetables, fish, legumes and uses extra virgin olive oil.
