CULTUREThe official language of Britain is English.Christianity is the major religion of Britain. There are more than five million Christians in the United Kingdom.Nearly 80% of Britain’s population drinks tea on a daily basis. Many Brits enjoy tea time around 4:00 PM.Cricket, rugby, and soccer are the most popular sports in Britain. The world’s most popular soccer team, Manchester United, plays in Britain’s Premier League.

RESOURCESBritain’s agricultural industry produces barley, cattle, chickens and eggs, fruits, milk, potatoes, sheep, and wheat. Britain’s’ fishing industry catches cod, haddock, and mackerel. Britain’s mining industry produces coal, natural gas, and petroleum.

CLIMATEThe overall climate in Britain is called temperate maritime. This means that it is mild with temperatures not much lower than 32ºF in winter and not much higher than 90ºF in summer. It also means that England’s weather is often damp and is subject to frequent changes. July and August are normally the warmest months in Britain, while January and February are typically the coldest months.The Lake District is Britain’s wettest region, receiving and average of 130 inches of precipitation each year! Britain’s climate is influenced by its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, its northern latitude, and the warming of the waters around the land by the Gulf Stream (a warm current of the northern Atlantic Ocean).
