COSTIf St. Vincent left us, we would lose out on the tremendous charity care they do. We would also lose the only hospital whose mission is centered around treating patient's mind, body, and spirit--as symbolized in the three doves. And this hospital is the only one that is this dedicated to the poor.

VALUESt. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis provides employment for 6,500 workers, and 13,000 workers state wide with its 17 hospitals and 19 ministries. It serves the needs of over 30,000 patients a year! It is a non-profit organization, so it does not give it's financial information to the public. The Simon Primary Care Center is like your regular doctor's office across the street from the hospital. It give free health care to people with little or no medical insurance, and St. Vincent pays for it.

SUCCESSESSt. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital is ranked nationally in cardiac, stroke, orthopedic, and gastrointestional care. It is Indiana's only hospital to be recognized for excellence in four speciality areas by HealthGrades, the nation's leading provider of hospital rankings. It is one of 6 Indiana hospital 's to recieved a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Medal of Honor for their efforts to generate significant increases in organ donation.

HISTORYThe Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul came to Indianpolis in 1881 because Bishop Chatard saw a need to help the poor and sick. Four sisters arrived with a total of $34.77 among them , and set up in an old unused church building in downtown Indianapolis. In 1913, they moved to a larger facility on Fall Creek Parkway. About that same time, they changed the name of the clinic to St. Vincent Hospital, after St. Vincent de Paul. In 1974 they moved to their current location on West 86th Street in Indianapolis.St. Vincent is the patron saint of works of charity.

ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTIONToday, St. Vincent donates millions in charity care programs: The Unity Development Center provides before and after school care for poor children downtown; Mobile Mammograms travel all over the state to low income women to check for cancer; The Star Program provides a 9 week training program to adults who have no college education and have no job. It teaches them computer skills, and how to get a job. St. Vincent even hires some of them. Projejct 18, with Peyton Manning fights childhood obesity.
