Forests could represent source of danger,the frontier, thresholds, the unknown. Journeys into them are seen as initiations, tests and challenges and uncertainty.
Young Goodman Brown, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne has many symbols. The forest is one of them.I think the forest represents evil and false imformation. In the story the forest is described as “gloomy” and “frightful”.
In the story Goodman Brown used the forest to hide himself from a woman that was traveling through the woods. The forest also hid other travelers from him as he walked. The forest eventually led Brown to a meeting with “fiend worshippers” and the devil.

The forest leads Goodman Brown to evil in the end and hides him from others along the way. As he gets deeper and deeper into the forest the path fades and eventually left Brown in the middle of the depths of evil

It's good! This is the only Glog that has a working video, though it's of the picture of a forest with some birds chirping
