Washington re-elected president. Issued the Neutrality Proclamation to keep the U.S out of the war between France and Great Britain.

Goerge Washinton rufesed his third re-election as president and retired to Mount Vernon.

Washington signed the Jay Treaty to continue trade with Great Britain.

Goerge Washington proclaimed Thanksgiving as a national holiday on October 3, 1789.

Washington's wife was Martha Dandridge Custis Washington and they had no children.
