Over a third of the petroleum in the world traded by sea passes through the Strait of Hormuz, the only sea passage from the Persian Gulf to the open ocean. The Iranians are currently threatening to close the Strait, a major strategic choke point, due to international sanctions by the United Nations. The U.S. Navy and her allies patrol the Strait regularly.

Iran is in the process of enriching weapons-grade Uranium to make nuclear military arms. Just one of these missiles has the power to level a major city, i.e. Jerusalem.

Iran's government is based in Theocracy, and rooted in Islamist Ideology.

Iran is in a very dangerous geological location in the world, stuck between Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
