John Fitzgerald Kennedy

35th President of the United States

Kennedy defeated then Vice President and Republican candidate Richard Nixon in the 1960 U.S. presidential election, one of the closest in American history. He was the second-youngest President (after Theodore Roosevelt), the first President born in the 20th century, and the youngest elected to the office, at the age of 43. Kennedy is the only Catholic, and the first Irish American, president, and is the only president to have won a Pulitzer Prize.

Kennedy half dollar

Succeeding the Franklin half dollar, the Kennedy half dollar is a coin of the United States first minted in 1964, the year following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

John joined the US Navy in September 1941. He served our country in WWII in Panama and later in the Pacific theatre. He earned the rank of lieutenant, commanding a patrol torpedo (PT) boat. The PT boat was rammed by a Japanese destroyeron August 2, 1943 and sank. Kennedycourageously helped direct rescue operations to save many of the menon his boat. For these actions, Kennedy received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal
