Made States and Legislature rethink their statues for capitol offences to ensure that the death penalty would not be administered in a capricious or discriminitive manner.

Supreme court reversed Georgia's Supreme court's sentenced with the final vote being 5 for Furman and 4 against

Furman raped a 65 year old woman and commited murder. He was sentenced to death even though all the jury knew about him was that he was 26, work with "Superior", and was black.
