1. Hodgkin's lymphoma, previously known as Hodgkin's disease, is a type of lymphoma, which is a type of cancer originating from white blood cells called lymphocytes. It was named after Thomas Hodgkin, who first described abnormalities in the lymph system in 1832.

3. If Hodgkin's disease (HD) is in its early stages and disease is contained above the diaphragm, the large abdominal muscle that controls breathing, radiation therapy typically has been the treatment of choice. External beam radiation (delivered outside of the body by a machine) usually is aimed at the mantle field - the neck, chest, and lymph nodes under the arms. Occasionally, the patient's condition calls for radiation that is directed at the nodes in the upper abdomen, lower pelvis, and the spleen. In general, the radiation dose depends upon the stage of HD. However, if early stage cancer is found below the diaphragm, treatment may involve chemotherapy, with or without radiation therapy. Late-stage HD in adults who do not have much involvement of the chest may be managed by total nodal irradiation, with/without liver irradiation, or chemotherapy, with/without radiation therapy to areas of bulky disease. Adults with more extensive HD often will be treated with chemotherapy alone or in combination with total nodal irradiation or radiation to areas of bulky disease, or bone marrow transplantation.

2. It impacts the body by enlarging lymph glands in your neck or your armpit and makes you feel as if you can't catch your breath. There are 4 types within the classical group. A type called nodular sclerosing is the most common type of Hodgkin's lymphoma in the UK. Nearly 6 out of 10 (60%) of all diagnosed cases are this type. Only about 1 in 20 cases (5%) of Hodgkin's lymphoma are nodular lymphocyte predominant type.

4. 85% of people live for five years with proper care. In the 1950s life expectancy was about a year and it was rare that you survived it. Young adults and elderly are more likely to get hodgkins disease because they have lower immune systems. The procedure for curing the disease is different now than it was because of scientific advancements.
