Over consumption of red meat can cause cancer, heart disease, and other detrimental health problems. Aside from possible health risks, red meat consumption negatively affects the environment and the lives of the animals consumed.

What makes red meat so bad for the human body? Red meat is high in saturated fat and cholesterol which leads to plaque build up in the arteries and heart disease. Red meat also increases a growth hormone in the human body that stimulates and promotes the growth of cancer cells.

Alternatives?Tofu, tempeh, seitan, whole grains, and legumes. White meat, like chicken and turkey, is also an option but white meat contains the same amount of cholesterol as red meat and still contains a high amount of fat.

Animals that are raised for consumption are treated poorly their entire life. They are forced to live in small, windowless barns that they barely have enough room to stand in and suffer long journeys to slaughterhouses and are often killed while still fully conscious

To raise animals for consumption requires a loss of land, water, and trees. Animal waste not properly disposed of can run off into nearby streams and rivers, and animal agriculture has been named the second biggest environmental hazard facing the Earth.
