"A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM"(1964)

Some movie soundtrack

TheAthenianLaw

There was a law in the city of Athens which gave its citizens the power to force their daughters to marry whoever they pleased. If a girl refused to marry who she had been asigned by his father, the father could by this law cause her to be killed. This law was rarely or never used.

Women were expected to be housewives and mothers. If a child was born and survived then it would have been considerd a blessing. Women took a pride in being a mother.Although every girl fom very Young age was tought and trained in domestic matter, very few actually had a proper education, in which a tutor would teach them at home.Their marriges were arranged by their fathers most of the times. In this life, they were required to run the household and have lots of babies which many were taken care for.

Men around the 16th century were supposed to provide for his family. They also had to be or seem at least, powerful, and defend their honor. An interesting fact is that everithing his wife had before and after the marriage was owned by him. Most of the low class men inthe 16th century begin working before finishing school.

•Jobs and Economy:Like all early civilizations Ancient Greece was an agricultural society. Most of the people lived by farming and the main form of wealth was owning land. In each city there was an upper class and a middle class of men like substantial farmers, doctors and teachers. However the vast majority of people were peasants and craftsmen or slaves. Nowadays people have different careers. Because as we advanced in studies and experiments we were able to créate new university studies for example EngeniersThat is why in our current society we have many different types of Jobs. Quite odd, we do not express wealthness by owning lands, what is more important is the value those lands have. Moreover, our economy is based on a coin and who ever has more of that coin, is the wealthiest because he can purchase more things. •Slavery:Slavery was common. (It is estimated that about 30% of the population of Athens was made up of slaves). If they worked in rich peoples homes slaves could be reasonably treated. However by law owners were allowed to flog slaves. Those slaves who worked in mines probably suffered the most.Although we may have advanced on our democracy and respect on regions like africa there are still families who have slaves•Parenting:When a child was born it was not regarded as a person until it was five days old when a special ceremony was held and the child became part of the family. Parents were entitled, by law, to abandon newborn babies to die of exposure. Sometimes strangers would adopt abandoned babies. However in that case the baby became a slave.ALthough the process might have altered a bit, we still need autentification of the birth of our children so that people actually get the title of being parents. It is not that a couple gets together, has relations and a child is born and they automaticlly are our children. If you are infertile nowadays you can get help to have children which couldn’t be done back then.•Social Class:In every age their was a división on society. Wether it was because someone had more power, money, army, or lands we always were divided in three typical clases. That is High, Mid and Low class.
