This is an interesting quote from Morrie. At a sporting event, everyone was chanting ''We're number one'' then Morrie stood up and shouted ''What's wrong with being number two?''. I think that is significant because it is contrary to the average thinking of people. People want to be the best at what they can be, but Morrie says that it is acceptable to not be the best. It portrays an attitude of defeat.

I believe you should strive to be the best because you will never obtain your goal and will not get better if you don't. You will not be able to better yourself by being satisfied with the average or common. You should strive to be above average and uncommon in good ways.
