Who?

Why?

What?/Where?

When?

Leif Ericsson was a viking explorer.

Leif left Greenland to explore around 1000AD.

No one knows exactly where Leif landed on his voyages because he made no maps. He most likely landed in what is now called Newfoundland (which he called Vinland). He is thought to have led what was probably the first European expedition to the mainland of North America.

His father was explorer Eric the Red who founded a settlement in Greenland. Leif sailed west from Greenland about 1000 to seek a land that a Norse sea captain, Bjarni Herjolfsson, had sighted (probably North America).
